Deeply aromatic and quietly sweet, this root tea comes from a tropical climbing vine with slender, fragrant roots. It shares the familiar Sarsaparilla common name with Jamaican or Mexican Sarsaparilla from the Smilax genus, even though they are completely different plants. In South Asia it has long been enjoyed as a traditional root tea, known in Sanskrit as Anantamula ~ the eternal root.
Steeped hot, it pours a warm amber hue with a soft vanilla-like aroma, gentle earthiness, and a rounded, naturally sweet finish. Cooled down, it becomes a classic summer pour ~ add a little Licorice Root as a natural sweetener and serve over ice for a special treat, smooth on the palate with a lingering root-and-spice note.
