Description
This is a gentle, moisture-loving perennial native to parts of Europe and western Asia. Over time it was introduced to other temperate regions, where it is now cultivated and naturalized in suitable landscapes. The plant likes marshy ground and damp meadows where soils remain cool and heavy.
Marshmallow is notable for its soft, downy structure; covered in fine hairs that give the plant its velvety feel. Pale pink flowers rise in summer above a thick, branching root. Brewing creates a light green infusion with a smooth, mellow taste ~ softly rounded and faintly sweet.
