Wild and untamed, Cat’s Claw is a woody climbing vine that grows in South American Rainforests. Along its stem grow curved thorns that resemble a cat’s claw (hence the name) ~ they help the vine climb into the canopy. Once the plant is mature the top parts are harvested and it regrows from the roots. Harvesting in this method ensures sustainability of this wonderful herb for future generations.

Traditionally used in parts of the Amazon region, Cat’s Claw became known to wider audiences in the 1970s with demand accelerating in the 1990s.

The decoction yields a warm reddish brown hue with a woody scent. The taste is earthy yet gently bitter and quite satisfying.

Directions

Use spring or filtered water. Good water is an essential part of brewing a great cup of tea.

Relax. Some of the most enjoyable aspects of tea are the calmness and ritual that surround it. Take some time for tea! 

Quick Brew Directions. Pour freshly boiled water over tea bags in your chosen mug, cover, and steep 5 to 7 minutes. 

Full Strength (decoction) Directions. When dried, Cat’s Claw Bark is tough ~ it needs to be gently simmered for maximum strength. Use a stainless pot and stainless or wooden utensils. Use one tea bag per cup of water, cover and bring to a gentle boil briefly, then turn down the heat and simmer for 10–20 minutes. Extra tea can be stored in a sealed glass jar for a day or two in the refrigerator.
