Not your average cherry tree, the Wild black Cherry tree stands up to 80 feet tall and is found in most hardwood forests of Eastern North America. It produces fragrant white flowers that give way to purply black pea sized fruit that is bitter or sweetish ~ the same shape but smaller and harder than the cherries found in fruit markets. The bark is reddish brown and peels in strips somewhat like the Birch tree.
Standing beneath one of these giants, one can feel the forest breathe. The berries are beloved by birds and forest creatures, who can strip a tree of its fruit in days.
Thee aroma of the tea is reminiscent of almonds and sour cherries with a taste that is aromatic, bitter and astringent.
