Sun-warmed and aromatic, this small shrub grows wild across Mexico, Central America, the Caribbean, and parts of the southern United States. Damiana is known by its bright yellow flowers and long, broad, soft leaves. The flowers and leaves both have an aromatic scent with a warm, bitter, camphor-like taste. Damiana has appeared for generations in the traditions of the Indigenous cultures of Mexico and Central America. Until a few years ago, the genus of this plant was accepted as aphordisiaca, but was changed by botanists to diffusa ~ same plant.
Infused, the leaves offer a warm aroma with serious herbal depth. The cup is slightly bitter and earthy ~ with a lingering grassy tone to finish.
