An ear of Corn is the plant’s female flowering structure, tucked inside layers of husk. Each potential kernel begins as a tiny ovule along that ear, and from each one grows a single strand of Cornsilk. These fine threads extend outward to receive pollen, and once pollination is complete, the kernels begin to form. By the time we harvest the cobs and pull back the husk, the silks have usually turned brown and dried, their work already done.

Harvested earlier, while still supple and light in hue, Cornsilk can be dried for tea. Thee infusion is pale golden with a mild, familiar aroma. Good Cornsilk should taste like the essence of corn ~ gentle, slightly sweet, and clearly connected to the plant from which it comes.

Directions

Use spring or filtered water. Good water is an essential part of brewing a great cup of tea.

Relax. Some of the most enjoyable aspects of tea are the calmness and ritual that surround it. Take some time for tea! 

Quick Brew Directions: Pour freshly boiled water over tea bags in your chosen mug, cover, and let steep 3 to 5 minutes to taste. 

Full Strength (infusion) Directions: Cornsilk makes the best tea when exposed to high temperatures for only a short period of time. Be sure that your water is at a rolling boil when you pour it over your tea bags. Use one tea bag per cup of boiling water, cover and steep for 7-12 minutes.
