An aromatic and bitter herb, Wormwood was once sought after as an ingredient for brewing beer before the popularity of hops. When ingested in small amounts, its seeds were an excellent folk remedy to expel worms, hence the name.
Presently Wormwood is widely naturalized in the northern United States and Canada. It is an ingredient in many liqueurs and aperitifs, including vermouth and the spirit absinthe.
