Oregano is a native of the Mediterranean, with recorded use dating back to 3,000 BC by the Assyrians. Its name is derived from Greek words oros (Mountain) and ganos (joyful brilliance). Legend has it that Aphrodite created this herb and grew it in her garden atop Mount Olympus - using it as a symbol of happiness and joy.
Oregano tastes spicy, fresh and savory - blending well with rosemary and thyme. It's a popular herb among cooks and herbalists, and is a staple of Greek cuisine. Use it to flavour pizza, fish, meat, vegetables, herb oils, and baked goods.
