Oats is an annual grass, easily distinguished from wheat or barley by its loose, flowering head and the papery covering of its grain. This prarie grass is widely distributed throughout the world and is generally cultivated for its grain. With the seed husk removed and the grain rolled flat or cut, we get oatmeal. In herbalish, the green flowering tops are harvested before maturity - when the seeds are still in the milky white stage and called Oatstraw.
Oatstraw is recognized natural food - good when made into tea, salves, tinctures, or added to bathwater.
