Description
This herb comes from Persia and was first used to feed both man and beast. It grows in open fields and pastures with roots that spread incredibly deep - between 30 and 60 feet - allowing it to absorb (and deliver) many nutrients. It's a major component of many hay mixtures.
Alfafa was brought to North America around 1850 and quickly adopted into Indigenous herbology, livestock feed, and human food. This herb tastes sweet, bitter, and earthy - being somewhat acidic due to the type of soil it likes. Common practice is to enjoy it as a tea, or eat it directly in or on other foods.
