Description
Pepper's berries are called peppercorns - it's a drupe (stone fruit) native to the Malabar coast in the southwest India. The dark outer skin is a result of the drying of hte unripe drupe - turning it from ggreen to black.
Pepper was used in ancient Roman cuisine and became a status symbol of fine medieval European cookery. Now, it's found on nearly every table in the world and is grown in many tropical countries.
We find that fresh ground pepper is at least twice as good! Put this in your peppermill, or add it to sauces and gravies, simmering until the pepper berries get a little soft for a special kick.
