This woody climbing vine matures at 10 years old, reaching 100 feet into the Amazon rainforest canopy with a trunk 4 inches thick.
The name Cat's Clas (literal translation of Spanish word Uña de gato) refers to the curved thorns that grow from stem below each leaf. When harvesting, the vine is pruned close to the soil, allowing the rootstock to regenerate rapidly. Its extensive use predates the Inca empire and in 1970, it underwent further study to become a very popular herb.
Make this fine herb into tea using the decoction method and taking it cooled with lemon. It's also good as a powdered her, or in tincture.
